ADS "A. Burr" 1p., 7 1/2 x 2 1/2 oblong, Albany, Feb 11, 1800. A check drawn from "cashier, of the Bank of Albany to pay I.V.Y or bearer, twenty five dollars." Usual cut cancellations not affecting signature.

During the presidential contest of 1800 the Republican Electoral College chose two candidates, one Thomas Jefferson and the other Aaron Burr. The vote was a tie and the decision of whom was to be President was not decided until early in 1801 by the House of Representatives. (#STP2119)
